Gene Block was officially inaugurated as UCLA's chancellor in a festive ceremony at Royce Hall. The celebration began with a procession by more than 300 dignitaries in caps and gowns and culminated with a rousing recessional led by the UCLA Brazilian Ensemble. Dignitaries and representatives from academia and the UCLA community gave Chancellor Block their greetings, with performances by groups from the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music lending their multi-cultural musical talents throughout the ceremony. Following the inauguration, all audience members were invited to a reception on Dickson Plaza.
